Monroe, my mystery mutt! |
I guess it has a lot to do with his friendly, but also chill and relaxed personality. He is content to sit and be petted for hours but he always wants to meet everyone he sees - people, dogs, cats, squirrels..... he especially loves kids. They are his size and could possibly have some peanut butter remnants left from their lunch that he can lick off of them with gentle kisses.
As a former shelter dog, Monroe takes his food seriously (kind of like his mama - he loves to eat). But he isn't as particular about what is offered for dinner as I am. He will always snack on any other pets' food if he can get to it before I notice. This is only a big problem when he eats 4 or 5 times the normal amount of dog, or cat food, clearly not meant for him....
He is too smart for his own good in this respect sometime. He is known to plot with his doggie friends to get a hold on a bag of treats and eat them all at once. He and another dog once figured out a way to climb up on a pulled-out chair to reach the table where the unopened packet of treats lay. In fact I am fairly sure that the other dog (a sweetie named Tutti) told him where the treats were on the table (her owner left them there thinking they were safe out of reach). Together they plotted to get to the package, get it open, and them eat all the treats without sharing any of them with the third dog staying in the house too. Poor Farley, always picked on by the other two. They steal his ball, they take his treats... but I know he still likes playing with them. And in the end he got the last laugh - Tutti and Monroe both got sick from eating too many treats too fast...
