"Summer drinks make me feel fine...."

As the weather gets hot, thouights turn to pool parties and hanging out on the porch with friends, having a few cocktails and dreaming of beach vacations.   The debate about the perfect summer drink has a very wide range amongme and my friends.   Some go for the umbrella drinks, margaritas and mojitos....

The only problem with mojitos is that they are a bit labor intensive.   If you are not careful you will find yourself spending far too much time muddling sugar and mint instead of enjoying the company of your friends. However, that combination of sweet and citrus and mint is light and refreshing when you are enjoying the sunny weather.  And non-alcoholic version is just as tasty, particularly when made with soda water and not sprite (then it becomes too sweet for my taste).

Also what I do love this time of year is watermelon!   If you want to turn it into a cocktail, there are couple of ways to go about it.....

If you want to go the collegiate route, then by all means - put the vodka directly into the whole melon and let it soak.  This method is both messy and fun when it is time to eat the fruit.

For something a little more sophisticated, put the cut pieces of watermelon into the blender along with some ice and create a slushy frozen drink.  Add a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lime to bring out the flavor.   You can add either vodka or rum to taste in each individual glass and leave the blended slushy drink for guests who prefer a non-alcoholic summery drink.
